The Mission of the Indiana Leadership Forum
ILF History
In 1993, the Indiana Leadership Program was founded by businessman Al Hubbard, political activist Roger Schmelzer and community leader Joe Hale to prepare qualified individuals for civil service and to generate a greater understanding of the political process. Today, in its second decade of operation, the Indiana Leadership Forum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational organization dedicated to preparing Indiana's most talented community and business leaders for various political leadership roles and public service throughout the state.
To date, over 440 Hoosiers have graduated from the ILF program and many are actively engaged in various leadership positions across the state. They are teachers, doctors, attorneys and business people: men and women with a desire to become more involved.

ILF Program
The Indiana Leadership Forum is a seminar series on leadership and politics. Classes meet once a month from November to June. All classes, excluding the trip to Washington, D.C., are held in the Indianapolis area. Participants have the opportunity to meet and interact with state elected officials and local experts in the field of politics. Course topics include:
• Political Theory & Public Policy
• State Government & Legislative Issues
• Grassroots Organization
• National Politics & Federal Government
• Campaign School
• Message & Media Training
• Leadership Development
Following graduation during our Annual Luncheon in August, the ILF Alumni Association offers ongoing opportunities to attend educational forums, to be involved in local politics, and to participate in extensive professional networking.

ILF Alumni
Since 1993, over 440 Hoosiers have graduated from the Indiana Leadership Forum and many have serve Indiana in a variety of important and highly influential leadership positions, including:
• United States Congressman and Congressional Candidates
• State Representatives
• County Commissioners and Prosecutors
• Elected Judges
• Indiana Secretary of Commerce
• Commissioner, Workforce Development
• Indiana Election Commission
• Indiana Transportation Finance Authority
• Indiana Republican Party Treasurer
• Town, City, and County Council Members
• Precinct Committeemen & County Chairmen
• Various Leadership Positions in Indiana Business, Government/Politics, and Philanthropies; such as Indiana Senate Chief of Staff, General Counsel to the Office of the Governor and many others.
How to Participate
Selection Criteria: Successful applicants will have a track record of leadership skills, self-motivation, professional achievement, and exemplary character. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate a strong potential for future success, a willingness to be more actively engaged in the community, and the ability to utilize the Indiana Leadership Forum education in order to increase his/her level of civic engagement.
Method of Selection: A Selection Committee comprised of four (4) Indiana Leadership Forum graduates, an Executive Board Member, and the program director will evaluate the application files based on the selection criteria. Qualified candidates should plan to be available to participate in a personal interview with the Selection Committee in early September. Applications are due prior to September 1st. Selections will be announced in the beginning of October.
